When Wynter Probert walked into her first Happening Marketing (HM) case competition last March, she didn’t know it would lead to her current job at Glowtify. Wynter’s success story shows how getting involved with JMCC and case competitions can jumpstart your career, and why you should say yes to your first case.
Meet Wynter
Now in her third year in university, her second year studying Marketing at JMSB, Wynter transferred to Concordia University already knowing what she wanted to do: compete.Growing up as a competitive alpine ski racer, she thrived in high-pressure, performance-driven environments. But even when she hung up her skis, that competitive drive never faded. When she discovered she could combine her passion for business with her love of competition through JMCC, she knew it was meant for her.
“I accepted my spot at JMSB before even trying out for any of the case competitions,” Wynter says. “I knew this was where I wanted to be, and competing in case comps was a part of that journey”.
Before finishing her first competition at the Retail Innovation Competition (RIC), Wynter had already fallen in love with JMCC and applied to Happening Marketing - one of the external competitions JMCC participates in. Hosted every March at different universities around canada, HM challenges students to solve a real-world business problem for a corporate sponsor and present their solutions directly to a panel of judges, some of whom are representatives from the sponsoring company itself.
Preparing for HM
From December to March, Wynter prepared with weekly sessions alongside her teammates, Alexandre Siriwardhana (JMCC’s current co-president) and Parsa Assadian(Business analyst at Stymiest and Associates). Guided by JMCC coaches, the team combined Wynter’s strengths in strategy and implementation with her teammates’ experience in JDC/JDCC. Even though she was new to HM’s specific format, their mix of skills complemented one another perfectly.
The Competition
At the competition, the team was assigned a case from Glowtify, a Montreal-based AI marketing startup looking to boost awareness and optimize acquisition marketing.
Glowtify’s Co-founder Marc Allard recalls it as “a particularly difficult case,” far beyond what is typically taught in university classrooms. The team’s solution focused on optimizing Glowyify’s SEO, extending their free trial to better suit client needs and increasing US brand awareness. Marc recalls how Wynter’s confidence, creativity, and grasp of both modern and traditional marketing made her stand out, even alongside such a strong team.
Turning Competition into Career
One of Wynter’s key takeaways/biggest piece of advice from competing: follow up with judges. By connecting with the judges on LinkedIn, some of which were a part of Glowtify’s team, and other corporate sponsors while her performance was still fresh in their minds, she differentiated herself and ultimately, landed herself an interview; Wynter received a meeting request from the Co-Founder a few days after the competition.
“He asked me if I wanted to get on a call a few weeks later, and I hopped on not knowing what to expect”.
After discussing her performance at HM, and her subsequent summer plans, Wynter was officially offered an internship at Glowtify. Her internship allowed her to contribute in various ways across the business: from working with the sales team, to managing clients, Wynter got the opportunity to explore the different areas of a growing startup. “We knew that with her natural drive and resourcefulness, she would adapt quickly to our startup culture and make an immediate impact,” said Glowyify’s Co-CEO. “We were completely charmed.”
After her internship, Wynter accepted a return offer as Glowtify's social media manager. Today, she manages Glowtify’s social media while balancing school, serves as JMCC’s VP Internal, and continues to compete in multiple case competitions, including an International competition in the spring.
It’s your turn.
Wynter’s story is exactly what JMCC is all about: turning curiosity, ambition, and a willingness to challenge yourself into real opportunity. HM helped Wynter discover her ability to work under pressure, build confidence, and connect with people who saw her potential.
Your first case could change everything, and Wynter’s journey is a reminder of exactly that.
